Bill Tidwell

Bill Tidwell began his association with the shooting sports when his Grandfather presented him with a .22 caliber rifle at twelve years of age. As a teen-ager, he qualified as an expert in the Junior NRA Smallbore Marksmanship Qualification Program.

While serving in the United States Marine Corps, he maintained an Expert rating with military rifles throughtout his service commitment. Also while in the Marine Corps, although he never served as a police officer, he graduated from the Police Academy at Mira Costa College.

In recent years Bill has earned Distinguished Expert ratings in both the Handgun and Light Rifle Qualification Programs of the National Rifle Association.

From 1983 to 1992 Mr. Tidwell and his wife Cathy served as instructors for the San Leandro Junior Optimist Marksmanship Club. In 1984 Bill and Cathy also began teaching State of California Hunter Education Courses.

In 1986 Bill became an NRA Certified Instructor in Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun, Personal Protection and Home Firearm Safety. Shortly after that he was also certified as an instructor in Muzzleloading Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun. He is currently certified in all of those disciplines as well as being a State of California Handgun Saftety Certificate instructor, an NRA Chief Range Safety Officer and holds an NRA Senior Training Counselor certification that allows him to train new NRA instructors and Training Counselors.

In 1995 Bill was named one of the first Master Hunter Education Instructors in the State of California and charged with the responsibility of helping new instructors to become proficient in teaching techniques and procedures. In November 1998, Bill Tidwell was recognized as the first Hunter Education Instructor of the Year for the State of California in a ceremony held at the State Department of Fish and Game meeting held in Yosemite National Park. He is also certified as an NRA Instructor for Wild Turkey, Western Big Game Hunting and White Tail Deer Hunting Clinics.

Recently Bill has been named a Range Technical Team Advisor by the National Rifle Association and helps to provide on-site assistance for shooting ranges.

In 2003 Bill was certified as a California Handgun Safety Certificate Instructor able to administer the new HSC test to the public and as a Handgun Safety Certificate Instructor Trainer, qualified to teach experienced individuals the information needed to become an HSC Instructor.

In twenty years of teaching shooting sports to the public, Bill Tidwell has taught over 4,000 individuals firearm safety and marksmanship and he looks forward to teaching many more.
